Beta Update V1.2.1 (Fixes List)

Make sure after updating you verify the integrity of the game file (Right click Godus -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify) and restart Steam.

  • Followers will now build past 2000+ Followers
  • Multi-clicking on Gem bug removed
  • Multiple Steam profiles and saves now supported 
  • Rubble takes fewer clicks to clear (2 instead of 5)
  • List of resolutions updated in options menu
  • Fixed 0x0 resolution bug
  • Removed debug editor option from F8
  • Raised limit on placement of settlements to 10 
  • Fixed bug where settlements stop working after save/load
  • Speed of followers to Totem increased by 10%
  • Re-balanced the birth rate of rank 4-6 Abodes
  • Graphical improvements to the battle map screen 
  • Shaders corrected on trees – beautify now more beautiful
  • Contours shadows added on Landscape 
  • Abodes now only eject 1 follower at a time 
  • Less tripping of Followers animation
  • Improved water surface
  • Improved follower terrain response 
  • State of the Gem mine now saves
  • Rebalancing of Gems in the mine
  • Preparing the world for Bronze age farming
  • Various icon revisions
  • Various text updates

Reinstalled, game now loads but takes a SUPER long time to start compared to 1.2.

ok, loaded seperate game on my second account and it works fine. Still can't connect to the server on my main game.....hmmmm

Sadly the game is also freezing for me on the loading screen now that the patch is in. Was so excited for it too. :(

Any suggestions on that? I'd prefer not to start over I put in a hell of a lot of hours to get up to where I am.

As long as I'm here, might as well give a quick rundown on my experience thus far.

Love the game conceptually. I'm a fan all the way back to the original Populous, and my favorite was definitely Populous: The Beginning. Played tons of that, long after everyone else had stopped, which was a shame because while the 25 single player missions were great fun, you could only replay that so many times, and finding an online opponent so long after the games release was basically impossible (which will bring me to a point in a few).

I hadn't even heard of Godus a few weeks back. My first alert to its existence was the Rev3games demo at PAX, which I saw on youtube. Immediately made me go: New populous?! SQUEE!!! Been eagerly waiting for its early release since then.

When I first started playing I loved the expansion and scultping and making more houses, felt just like populous. Could use a greater variety of buildings than just houses but I'm assuming more stuff like that comes along in later ages. Certainly not conquering space from a cottage. :P

One thing that physically is quite painful though is the incessant clicking to collect faith. I have repetitive stress pain in my mouse-clicking hand because I already work on the computer all day, so this was a lot more I couldn't really handle. I was able to use autohotkey to set it up so my spacebar functioned as a mouse click, which greatly reduced the stress of clicking for faith, although it was too twitchy to work for sculpting (since it can't duplicate a click-and-hold). But having an in-game way to setup hotkeys to reduce click stress would be nice.

After a couple days of expanding I ran into my first technical wall. When I got the mining card I didn't realize how scarce resource cards would become and that once I had collected all the available treasure chests within my area, there'd be no more. So when I ran out of chests, and thought to myself: Oh I better get mining so I can use that gem seam, I had only enough gems from the first 10 fights in mount of the gods to buy two resources (I'd spent 50 on a settlement at that point). I needed two cards, one of which was a piece of oak. I bought the first one, which filled into mining nicely. But when I bought the oak, because I had passed 1,250 population at that point and gotten the stone cottages card, it automatically put it into stone cottages, NOT mining, and I was out of gems, couldn't fill up the mining card, and was stuck.

No more cards or chests to find, can't replay any of the mount of the gods missions for more cards, and thus stuck.

So I backed up about 12 hours to an earlier state before I had hit 1,250 population, played mount of the gods till I got the mining card, and then immediately played all the rest of the mount of the gods, dug up every treasure chest, and used what gems I had to fill in mining before I got stone cottages.

This worked well, got mining, was able to use the gem seam and start buying resource cards to fill in the rest. At the time each time you left the game and came back the gem seam would regenerate. The fact that it didn't regenerate in game said clearly it was not intentional, and the patch notes above say as much as well.

That causes me some concern. Because the only way I was able to get as far as I could was with those gems. The vein would've become quickly exhausted otherwise and I'd have been stuck far sooner.

Which brings me to my final vexing point.

It's clear that multiplayer is required to advance. Using the regenerating gem mine, I've reached the last period before the bronze age and I do not possess any of those resource cards. I've expanded every shrine within my realm, gotten up to 3,000+ population even with the housing limit (thanks to level 4 houses).

But it seems clear the intent for the bulk of resource card collecting is multi-player battles. And I'd love to play them. Very much want to.

I hope someone can help me out on this point. When I click on the winged temple, all I get is a list of my steam friends, none of which have Godus nor are they planning to get it. And I'm not going to add random strangers solely for the sake of having multiplayer opponents. I can't even replay the mount of the gods levels for more cards.

It seems an absolute must for this game to have a robust online match-making system. Am I just blind and not seeing it? Or is it that, I assume (and hope and pray) a feature that's still pending? Cause there must be thousands, tens of thousands of beta players out there that would love to have matches, but I see no way to connect to them.

I'm hoping it's just something I've missed. Cause if the game is going to rely solely on steam-friends for online matches, it's DOOMED. None of my friends have it, as stated I do not intend to add non-friends just for the sake of having opponents, and even if I had multiple friends with Godus, arranging play times and a monotony of playing style from a very limited pool of opponents would wear thin in no time.

Love the game so far. See greatness in it's future. Pretty spiffy now, but running into advancement walls with no clear path to continue is frustrating.

Well, for those who wants start new fresh game:

There's no built in way to restart the game at the moment but here's the current work around:

Step 1: Go to the following folder. Program Files > Steam > Common > Godus
Step 2: Once there, just delete state.bin and state.bak and then restart the game.

That should do the trick. Let me know if you have any other questions!

ok i have been following the twitter feed and none of the suggested workarounds are doing anything. I have uninstalled and retried , no change, verified files, no effect.

 

According the twitter feed it was supposed to be rolled back to 1.2? Is that happening? Is there a delay in rolling it back and steam updating?

Mine has rolled back successfully to 1.2. I was able to load the game and continue my world from before.

 

However when I quit out of the game it locked up and crashed. And even when I shut it down steam couldn't recognize that the app was no longer running. If I tried to load it up again and it said it was already running even though it wasn't. I had to reboot entirely to clear it. Never did that before.

ok i'm seeing some conflicting reports and not sure about the timeline. On one tweet 22cans said they are rolling it back to 1.2. In another forum they mentioned that they weren't rolling it back to preserve save game integrity. i understand both points but it would be nice to know which is the case.

Just tried it again and it's now back to 1.2.1, AND it's back to locking up on the load screen and never starting. -_-

Seams rolling back caused more problems than it solved. Guess I'm stuck Godus-less until tomorrow.

 

Ah well. Must maintain my cool and remember it's beta, work in progress.

 

No one responded my my question before. What's up with online match-making? Cause all I get when I clicked on the winged temple was a list of my steam friends, none of which have Godus. Is it in there but I'm just too blind to see it? Or is that coming along later? Cause I'm stuck where I am until I can play online for the cards needed to get to the bronze age.

I can't get the game to start without removing my save (state) files. When i try to load the game with my original save file it just sits there making a droning noise and writes a MASSIVE Verbose.log file. Currently at 850MB!!

the update worked for me without any problems... just make sure you verify the integrity of the game file (Right click Godus -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify) and restart Steam. :)

Feedback from me

  • reached 5000 - no more goal after 5000?
  • found a big head under a mountain and nearly ruined my wrist while klicking - anything I can do with that thing?
  • found some strange patches (gem patches)?
  • no more expansions shrines around, no more cards hidden - can't advance anymore - is this because of Beta?
  • Fighting at monument is stuck at fight #11

Great game - wish you guys would update DK, DK II and bring that out again... :)

Hi Roger, answers to questions:

no idea had to restart the game after the patch.

I uncovered that one too, don't think it does anything in the beta, not sure

Yup those are patches of gems that can mined once you have the mining card filled in with resource cards

Advancement (i had this too) can only be made through playing people in multiplayer (click the shrine of multipleyer and invite a friend on steam to play you). The winner gets resource cards.

Yup i don't think anyone can actually get to the bronze age to unlock the 12-20 missions yet.

 

Loved DK1 and 2 too, i got populous on origin in the origin humble bundle :)

i am frustrated at my experiences of this game so far, i only managed to play a short tutorial of the game when i went into my settings to change my resolutions to watch videos while playing, only to change the resolution to 0x0 by accident, apparently there were "bug fixes" for this issue but obviously it still hasnt worked for me PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS or give me a refund for the 20$ i spent and deposit it back into my steam wallet because so far i have a seriously bugged game that wont opperate after only 10 minutes of playing. UNACCEPTABLE

Jonathan, when I was trying to reset the game after a previous bug I found that if you delete "videoConfig.bin" file it resets your video configuration and when you launch again it should revert back to its default resolution

On a mac that is located in the folder  ~/Library/Application Support/godus

Not sure where it is on a PC, but I am sure someone on here can help you.

people don't realise this is a BETA. the game isn't finished yet! It is meant to have bugs and these forums are here so we can report those bugs so 22cans can fix them. they want to see if the game runs smooth. this isn't a finished product, you payed so you can start playing now before full release.

 

soo far th game runs great for me. only had 1 crash and a smal bug where the UI of the battlemode comes when i'm on my homeworld. an't wait to go to the brons age

While this is fun and all, calling this "BETA" is disingenuous.  Beta usually refers to a finished or nearly finished product that is being shaken down for bugs.  Even Alpha usually refers to a product that is mostly feature complete.  This is more like "tech demo" stage.  It's still ridiculously addictive, even though the interface pretty much sucks (seriously hoping that new methods are devised to eliminate the total click fest, i haven't played for several days, simply because i need my wrists to not hurt all day)

The card that supposedly increases the number of cards you win in multiplayer matches doesn't increase the number of cards you win.

Also, if your clicking finger hurts the game has too much clicking.  My clicking finger hurts.

When you hit 12,000 population the next population goal is 0.  I restarted the game and it's still like that.  Also when you reach this point the game glitches and says you have 333 cards (instead of 72 like before I restarted).

hi Jazien I had to delete the save files (state.bin and state.bak located for me in the prf110000100984a17 folder in your steam folder) it means a hard reset for your game but it runs. It was a collosal pain for me to restart as i has already hit 5k pop but the experience showed me how much i was willing to put up with the ridiculous amount of clicking at the start in my first game due to excitement. the second time around it's REALLY noticable. For me it needs to be more immediate, i get annoyed when i can't click again because it has to play the anim of the ground moving....It's not a performance issue as in the original version (1.2) the dev console allowed you to instantly change massive areas of land.

Yeah, cliff sculpting lvl 2 seems like kind of a waste too.  You get to move 8 layers at once but they move soooo slowly that the animation takes twice as long as cliff sculpting one so all you really gain is doing 1 less action but saving no time.

I have no idea where to report little bugs, so I guess I'll just post it here?

Whenever I encounter blighted land and use the beautify spell to clean it up, it looks beautified but my followers still walk in it as if it were blighted land. That, and sometimes my followers glitch out on shrines and stop working on them after I play a pvp match, though upon restarting the game they will work on it again.

9k+ pop now and it's displaying that i have 333 cards and the book will not open now. Hmmmm guess i'll be putting it to bed till they update it again (at which point i'm sure i'll lose my savegame again....yay)
